Including the NYSABE conference in my book tour has been a full circle moment. Reconnecting with friends, colleagues, and administrators who have devoted their professional lives to support equity in teaching of ELLs and MLLs has been inspirational.
In my book the “Fight for Equity in the Bronx”, I take the reader to my early experiences as a paraprofessional in the Bilingual Pupil Services in the late 70s and later, as a Bingual teacher in the South Bronx in the early 80’s. I faced many challenges as a young Puerto Rican woman which ignited my resolve to join the fight for equity.
