This Community Showcase will highlight the work of Dr. Elaine Ruiz Lopez as a Literary Author and Artist that charts her journey as a Puerto Rican child growing up in the South Bronx in the 60s and 70s. On display the selection of photos from her book will depict the destruction of neighborhoods during the Bronx Decade of Fire, that was witnessed by Dr. Elaine Ruiz Lopez while pursuing a degree from the City College of New York (CCNY) to become a teacher in the South Bronx in the 80s in the aftermath of the rubble and destruction. This showcase will also reflect back to significant events in Puerto Rican History, the process of migration to the United States and "La Masacre de Ponce" in 1936 (The Ponce Massacre) that her mother and grand aunt were survivors of.
